Xinomavro (Seen-oh-mavro) is Greece's most important red wine, often drawing comparisons to Italy's famed Nebbiolo and frequently referred to as "The Barolo of Greece" for it's ability to produce wines that are sturdy and age worthy. The very best examples come from the region of Naoussa in Northern Greece where Apostolos Thymiopoulos makes wonderfully elegant wines, farmed using biodynamic practices. The Earth and Sky bottling is a blend of the best parcels of his estate vineyards, made from 45 year old vines. This is a stunning example of how serious these wines can be and an excellent gateway into the beautiful wines of Greece.
