Tucked into the foothills of the Pyrenees, Madiran is a high altitude, hidden gem of a winemaking region that produces red, white, and sweet wines. These wines come from a selection of grapes that are particular to the area like Petit Manseng, Gros Manseng, Petit Corbu and Tannat, which receives particular attention for it's ability to produce bold red wines with firm tannins. Pierre Dabadie, the fourth generation of this winemaking family took over the estate in the 1980's creating Domaine Laougué, extending the vineyards, and building a new cellar. He also steered the house toward more modern growing and winemaking methods, crafting nuanced and restrained wines that don’t need extended aging while showing the estate's terroir and style. Pierre’s son, Sylvain, now runs the estate with the goal of propelling this region and its grapes to higher levels of recognition. They have been certified organic since 2020 and practicing biodynamics since 2019. This is dark-fruited with dusty tannins and a full mouthfeel that leans less towards jammy fruit and more towards mineral and earth. A beautiful wine that is ready to drink now.
