Far up in the German speaking, northeastern hills of Italy they grow a wonderful grape variety known as Kerner, a crossing of Trollinger and Riesling. Kerner is known for its racy acid and is well suited to this cold climate. The Niklas family were the first to bring Kerner to the Alto Adige and hence there vines are the oldest in the region. For the Sauvignon Blanc lover, this is a fantastic replacement - crisp and refreshing, with a herbaceous pine quality and a lush blast of lychee fruit and lemon from spending five months on the lees.
